What Is Vanity Sizing, and What Size Tiger Camo Should I Order?
Oct 31st 2026
Vanity sizing is common in the United States for both men’s and women’s clothing. It means clothing is labeled with a smaller size than its measurements suggest. For example, you might wear jeans labeled 36 even though your waist measures closer to 40 inches. Sizes also vary between brands, so your usual medium or large won’t always fit the same.
These tiger stripe reproductions follow original military cuts. Use the size chart instead of relying on your usual size.
How to Choose Your Shirt or Jacket Size
Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape level and comfortably snug.
The chart lists the garment’s full chest circumference. Choose a garment larger than your chest measurement so you have room to move.
For example, if your chest measures 40 inches, the US-S shirt measures 45 inches around, leaving 3.3 inches of room before shrinkage. Allow extra room if you prefer a looser fit or plan to wear layers.
Check the shoulder, sleeve, and length measurements too. You can compare these with a shirt or jacket you already own that fits well by measuring it.
Allow for Shrinkage
Militaria 1911 has measured approximately 1% shrinkage in width and 6% in length for this Gold Tiger cotton fabric. Check each product’s description for its specific shrinkage information.
Choosing a Hat
Measure around your head where the hat sits, just above your eyebrows and ears, then compare your measurement with the hat’s size chart. Larger is better so you can allow for shrinkage since you may end up washing the hat more than a shirt/pant.
