A 1:1 external replica of the most widely issued Vietnam-era suppressor, blueprinted from one of the few surviving originals. The HEL-E4A® combines historically accurate Parkerized carbon-steel construction with proprietary modern internals and provides approximately 30 decibels of sound reduction compared with an unsuppressed M16.

REVISION 3.0

Rev. 3 incorporates unchanged from the original 1960s design, Rev. 3 incorporates the original-style mounting method with improved timing. Previous revisions used a floating back cap; Rev. 3 mechanically locks it in place, with five indexing positions versus two on the original for easier alignment.

BARREL COMPATIBILITY

Designed specifically for 20-inch and 14.5-inch, .625-inch “skinny” USGI-profile M16 barrels.

  • Original USGI and current-production H&R 20-inch barrels fit correctly - Not compatible with Fulton Armory barrels or modified/nonstandard USGI-style barrels as far as we know
  • Fits the 14.5-inch Colt carbine barrels included with recent Bowman kits without shims as originally thought.
  • Other 14.5-inch, .625-inch pencil barrels may require fitting or timing shims. We currently recommend installation only by mechanically experienced users.
  • Brownells 20-inch barrels are functional, but their threaded shoulder is approximately 1/8 inch longer than USGI specifications. This may affect rear-cap indexing on the bayonet lug. A competent gunsmith can turn the shoulder to the proper USGI dimensions if desired.
  • An optional Brownells-specific rear cap will be offered separately to accommodate the extended shoulder.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Length: 9.5 inches
  • Weight: 23 ounces
  • Parkerized carbon-steel construction
  • Proprietary modern baffle stack
  • Full-auto rated
  • No-BS Lifetime Warranty

INSTALLATION

  1. Remove the flash hider and split washer.
  2. Remove the Allen-head cap screws and washers from the suppressor.
  3. Carefully slide the rear cap over the barrel and index it on the front sight base and bayonet lug.
  4. Hold the rear cap in position with the back of your hand while carefully sliding the suppressor over the barrel and threading it onto the muzzle. Ensure the suppressor remains properly aligned.
  5. Continue tightening until the threaded mounting holes align with the corresponding holes in the rear cap. A small amount of additional tightening may be used to achieve alignment, but do not over force it.
  6. If the holes cannot be aligned, remove the suppressor, install one timing shim and repeat the installation. Add only the number of shims necessary to achieve proper alignment.
  7. Reinstall the Allen-head cap screws and washers. The screw threads are designed to tighten progressively and resist backing out.

    Great suppressor

Posted by Dan Arnold on May 6th 2026

Very quiet and it seemed to actually tighten up groups from my M16A1 clone. Cases eject right a 3 o'clock on a standard rifle setup. Very fun and pleasant to shoot. Of course it looks the part, too.

    Total dream to shoot.

Love the look, love the function. Exceedingly easy to fit and maintain. Paired this with a gas buster and went to town. Unique sound profile and very comfortable feel when in use. Can't recommend enough. Chris has been beyond communicative and helpful when addressing any questions from this first-time user.

    IMC-HEL E4A

Not too often does someone take the time and care to pain-staking reproduce a niche historical product like this. The attention to detail to the original 1960s design is unmatched. It doesn't add much to the OAL of a 20" M16A1 type rifle and the tone of the suppression is nice. I wish more companies were willing to reproduce cool historical suppressors like Chris has done here.

    HEL E4A Suppressor

Posted by Neal on Aug 20th 2025

This is what a high quality reproduction suppressor should be. Excellent fit and finish, it's a brand new suppressor that doesn't look out of place on a 50 year old rifle. Mounting is simple/straightforward, sounds nice, looks great. Literally couldn't ask for more.
